The best way to cook Silver Beet.

Because of the oxalic acid Silver beet should be cooked in boiling water before eating. To prepare Silver Beet fold leaves in half, chop, and rinse Beet. To boil, bring lightly salted water to a boil. When water is at a high boil add beet. Leaving the lid off, bring back to a boil and cook for about 3 minutes. Drain in colander. Grandma's Pickled Onions.

Peel desired amount of onions  * Tip - With care, scald onions in boiling water for 10 to 20 seconds for ease of peeling. Soak peeled onions overnight in a brine made from 500 gms salt to 4 litres of water. Drain and pack into jars and cover with spiced vinegar. Best way to prepare cabbage.

Remove heavy outside leaves and wash cabbage head. Slice required amount finely or to require thickness. Leave on chopping board for at least 5 minutes to release the nutrients.
